Barkley Shut Up and Jam: Gaiden

Thursday, January 31st, 2008

Finally, an RPG starring Charles Barkley. Set in 2041 (Barkley would be how old then?), in a post apocolyptic future where basketball has been outlawed, Barkley sets out to “escape from his past” and find a home for his son.

If you can’t slam with the best, jam with the rest.

Pokemon Boss Battle in Brawl

Wednesday, January 30th, 2008

It seems like the only news lately is Brawl news, but most of it is pretty exciting. Basically, the video is just Starfox getting his ass kicked by a giant Pokemon. I don’t know the Pokemon’s name…Rayquaza? The amazing part, though, is that I have to confirm my age to watch this…which makes no sense at all. And, what kid is so stupid that they are going to put in their correct age? I put 73 just to be sure I was old enough.

Grand Theft Auto IV Wanted Posters In Brooklyn?

Grand Theft Auto IV Wanted Posters

I feel like I know where this is…but I guess that could be anywhere in Brooklyn, really. I haven’t seen any yet, but when I do I’m taking it for myself. I wonder if anyone who doesn’t know about Grand Theft Auto IV will really get these ads, and if they wouldn’t, what’s the point of advertising to people that already know about the game and are going to get it?

Classic Boss Battle Video

Tuesday, January 29th, 2008

I saw this the other day, bored, looking around at stuff. I thought it was pretty awesome, it brought back a lot of memories…so many radical games. Like, what the fuck kind of last boss is that in Starfox, seriously? At the time I didn’t really think about it, I was too caught up in the amazing “3D” graphics. It’s just a giant head that shoots tiles out of it’s mouth. It’s totally radical, but how does one come up with that as a last boss? Are there meetings where everyone is like “We need a totally kick ass last boss, anyone have any ideas?” “Yeah…a large metallic head that contains a cube covered in images of Andross face. Obviously the face will shoot tiles.”

Super Smash Bros. Brawl Japanese Trailer

Tuesday, January 29th, 2008

With the Japanese release only a few days, the trailer from Super Smash Bros. Brawl has leaked out. I thought this was pretty awesome and radical. Something about Pikachu and Samus fighting together made me happy.

Super Smash Bros. Demo Booth Videos

Sunday, January 27th, 2008

So, some huge Super Smash Bros. fan in Japan has decided to video tape himself and others playing Super Smash Bros. Brawl matches at those demo kiosks in video game stores. He has a ton of videos up, and it’s pretty interesting to see the new gameplay elements. I love the subspace emissary footage, it seems like that is going to be a ton of fun. The more news that comes out about Brawl, the more I start to see just how much time and effort was put into the game.

No More Heroes Initial Impressions

Thursday, January 24th, 2008

It’s been a big week for me in gaming. First, Advance Wars, now No More Heroes. I haven’t played the game nearly enough, but from the little bit I have played (just two bosses in), No More Heroes is very awesome.

You play as Travis Touchdown who, after winning a beam katana (lightsaber) in an internet auction, decides to become a hitman. After killing a ranked assassin, Travis himself becomes the 11th ranked assassin in the world. Realizing that he has now made himself a target for aspiring assassins, he sets out to secure himself as the number one hitman.

Super Mario Bros.: Ground Theme

Stage 1_1 In Brawl

The Smash Bros. Dojo has two new recent posts up, one about a new stage for Brawl which is just a remake of World 1-1 in the original Super Mario Bros. It looks pretty cool, I’m suprised Nintendo hasn’t recreated the game before with updated graphics. They said the kingdom was been turned to ruins, I’m not really sure why. Sucks for all the stuff that used to live there.

The other post was a new awesome song, Super Mario Bros.: Ground Theme. The song is composed Koji Kondo, the same man who originally created the Super Mario Bros. music. It’s pretty radical how they got the same guy to make another version of the song. I always wonder how anyone who made video game music did it. The song just seems like it fits, now, after the fact, but originally I would have never been inspired to create that particular song based on level 1-1 in Super Mario. Like, the post says “The original overworld theme in Super Mario Bros. had a certain, almost Latin flavor to it”…I guess so, but I would have never “felt” Latin from playing that first level, it really doesn’t fit, but now it just seems like the music couldn’t be any other way.

I don’t think any of that made much sense really, I just thought the song was awesome.

Grand Theft Auto IV Release Date Announced

Grand Theft Auto IV Dated

Press releases are funny things. Like, I’m sitting here trying to think what I should add to this post to make it the least bit interesting…and I can’t think of anything. What more can I say? Rockstar Games announced that the release date is April 29, 2008 (PS3 and Xbox 360). That’s it, that’s the best I can do. But the people writing these press releases, they are good. They can always think of plenty of ways to embellish any announcement and make it sound interesting. I could never, in a million years come up with the phrase “genre-defining”, they’re good. They’re real good.

Team Ico’s Latest Project

Ico 3 Screenshot?

Sony updated the career’s page for Team Ico today, replacing sketches on the page with a new image, shown above. Could this be the first screenshot of Ico 3? Well, I guess it wouldn’t be Ico 3, but Shadow of the Colossus 2 or Ico 2…or some other title…whatever it doesn’t matter. Whatever it’s called, it will be totally radical. I just finished Ico for the first time last week, so the series is very fresh in my mind. I know I should have finished Ico like seven years ago, but that doesn’t matter right now, either. All that matters is screenshots of Team Ico’s current project are a good thing.
