I really like Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia’s soundtrack (and the game in general, it’s the best Castlevania game in a long time). Now, however, I’m pissed off I didn’t preorder the game because a music CD came with it.

Mother 3 English Language Patch Out This Week
Wednesday, October 15th, 2008
Earthbound (Mother 2 in Japan) on the SNES was pretty awesome, it was an original take on the RPG genre. Turns out it didn’t sell so well in the U.S., though. Then, in 2006 Mother 3 was released in Japan for the GBA. U.S. fans hoped and prayed and protested for a North American release, to no avail. Apparently NoA felt the game just wouldn’t sell well enough. Nate Bihldorff, the Nintendo of America Localization Producer/Manager confirmed he was not working on localizing Mother 3, which just made matters worse. It was sad times in the Earthbound community, as if millions of Earthbound fans voices suddenly cried out in terror and were suddenly silenced.
However, there was hope. A group of fans got together and decided to translate the game themselves. A lot of time and effort was put into it, and it looks like the patch will be out at the end of the week. Now all you have to do is illegally download the ROM (is it really illegal if I would have never bought the game anyway because it’s in Japanese?).

Street Fighter Club Event in Brooklyn, NY
Wednesday, October 15th, 2008
What’s a Street Fighter Club event? Apparently, an “evening of free pizza, sodas, an amazing goodie bag and ten Street Fighter IV arcade machines.” At least that’s what happened in L.A. when they held a similar event earlier this year. It took place in some run-down warehouse in an “ultra-sketchy” neighborhood, so there’s a good chance when it comes to Brooklyn it will be in Red Hook and I won’t have travel far. Honestly, I just want to go for the goodie bag. I hope Liz comes with me, because I’m a) scared of run-down warehouses, and b) scared of people cosplaying Street Fighter characters. And playing Street Fighter IV would be fun, too.
Cave Story Coming to Wii
Tuesday, October 14th, 2008
Nintendo recently announced their holiday 2008 line-up and, along with a bunch of other stuff, Cave Story was announced as a WiiWare release:
Cave Story: This title is an action-adventure game with new, exclusive content and features created only for the WiiWare version.
Cave Story (Doukutsu Monotagari) is currently a freeware game for the PC that was originally released on December 20, 2004. Developed by Studio Pixel (Studio Pixel is actually just one guy, I guess, Daisuke Amaya), it’s a 2D non-linear platformer somewhat similar to Metroid or the newer Castlevania games. I had not heard about it until now, and since it’s currently free, I decided to try it out since I love the classic Metroid games.
I was honestly amazed, I haven’t played a game that has the same atmosphere as Cave Story since…I don’t know, maybe Shadow of the Colossus. I can’t explain what aspect of the game play made me feel that way, but with everything combined it truly feels like a masterpiece. Doukutsu Monotagari spent five years creating the game, and it shows in all areas.
The first thing that stuck out to me was the music, which is amazing. It reminds me of no game in particular but at the same time still evokes Super Nintendo era feelings. The soundtrack alone just brought back these great memories of games gone by, it was really impressive. I’d almost compare it to Chrono Trigger, maybe…not that the music sounds the same or even similiar, but the level of musical quality. Songs that stick in your head long after you’ve finished playing the game.
