Now Playing: 06/28/09

Art Style Pictobits

I haven’t done a “Now Playing” in like a year and a half, so I figured “why not randomly do one today”. Yesterday, I upgraded to a DSi and have been playing a ton of PiCTOBiTS and BOXLIFE, as well as some Magic the Gathering: Duels of the Planeswakers on XBLA. Gamestop had a pretty good trade in deal (though I’m pretty sure it’s still a rip off) for the DS and DS Lite trade ins, $40 for the DS, and $70 for the DS Lite. Since we had two DS’es and a DS Lite laying around, the DSi upgrade was pretty much free. Sure, I could have probably get more for them on eBay, but I didn’t feel like dealing with that this week.

PiCTOBiTS and BOXLIFE are both downloaded puzzle games (DSiWare) that you would normally have to pay for, but Nintendo has a pretty cool promotion going on right now, you receive 1000 points for free, enough to buy both games (that offer ends 10/05/2009). Both are amazingly fun and addicting (PiCTOBiTS soundtrack is great), below are two game play videos…

Magic The Gathering Duels of the Planeswalkers Review

I used to play Magic the Gathering a long, long time ago…it’s one of my many dorky pastimes. When I saw that a Magic the Gathering game had come out on Xbox Live Arcade, I decided to give it a shot and see if the game was as fun as I remember. Overall, I was pleasantly surprised, the game was pretty easy to get back into since the rules really haven’t changed much in the 10 odd years since I played last. While Duels Of The Planeswalkers doesn’t have flashy graphics or over the top animations, it makes up for it through standard Magic the Gathering game play (and I think that’s what I like most about the game, it doesn’t try to do more then it is). Duels Of The Planeswalkers sticks to the basics of the card game and doesn’t go much beyond that, which is all I really want with a Magic game.

Left 4 Dead Premium Theme

This month’s Official Xbox Magazine comes packaged with a pretty awesome Left 4 Dead Premium theme. The magazine should be out this Tuesday and will also include four exclusive L4D gamer pictures. I’m probably going to pick it up since Left 4 Dead is pretty much the greatest zombie game ever, besides maybe Zombies Ate My Neighbors.

Persona PSP Gets Bonus Soundtrack

I want every Atlus game, ever. Not because of the bonus stuff that cames with every game, though, kind of getting bored with just getting video game soundtracks. I mean, I don’t not want them, I just want a little more variety. I would love to see more brass knuckle like extras.
