Atlus Hints at Announcement

Friday, May 30th, 2008

I receive email announcements from Atlus telling me all about the latest happenings and various other information about upcoming Atlus titles. Today, I receive this (click to view it at a higher resolution):

I have no idea what it means, I really can’t think what game this would be referring too, but it links here. So I guess we can expect some big (or not so big) announcement on June 3rd at around 10 AM PST.

I also received another Atlus email about a new production diary entry, basically behind the scenes information about what goes in to video game production (obviously). This one is about the naming of things in game, which I found to be pretty interesting. Basically, you can’t do a literal translation on enemy names are you get stuff like “Owner of the Malicious Glare.”

Etrian Odyssey II Contest

A few weeks ago there was an Etrian Odyssey II contest where you could win the games imported 3-disc soundtrack. That was pretty awesome, but not quite awesome enough. Now there’s another, better, more radical contest. Basically, you write a blog entry on Destructoid.com about “your most memorable experience associated with the series.” Like, basically it would be something like this.

Etrian Odyssey was totally awesome. I made a party and named them after my friends. It was fun. Until that first FOE kicked my ass. Then…not so much fun.

Then, if it’s really good, you could win…

  • A SIGNED copy of Etrian Odyssey II: Heroes of Lagaard
  • A SIGNED copy of the official 3-CD soundtrack (Import)
  • A 6.5″ Female Protector figurine (Import)
  • A copy of the rare Japan-only preorder bonus soundtrack CD
  • A copy of the orchestrated Super Arrange soundtrack CD (Import)

…which is really, really nice actually. More information below:

Zoids Assault Announced For Xbox 360

Tuesday, May 13th, 2008

Is it me, or does it seem like Atlus announces a new game every week now? Zoid Assault is a strategy RPG featuring giant robots that look like tigers or something. Wasn’t this a television show when I was a kid? Looks pretty nice, giant robots are always a good thing. Giant robots that were built to look like animals are even better. Zoids Assault is currently scheduled for release on August 26.

Etrain Odyssey II Soundtrack

Atlus has a totally awesome contest going on right now to help promote their upcoming RPG Etrian Odyssey II. Basically you write a story or something and if it’s good you win the 3-disc Etrian Odyssey II soundtrack. Seems pretty rad, I’d love that soundtrack…If your interested, you can go here and participate. My story would be all:

You see a really big and scary dragon in the woods. You are scared. You turn to your party members Greg, Robert, and Liz and are like “Uh, I’m really not sure what to do in this situation. I think we should run.” Greg is like “OK” and Liz agrees, but Robert is stupid and decides we should fight the dragon because we have many fighting abilities to beat him.

Robert casts “Find cheap deal in Best Buy ad”. “Find cheap deal in Best Buy ad” misses Dragon A.
Greg casts “That girl looks hot except her [insert body part] is messed up”. Greg’s attack fails, Dragon A is male.
Mike puts on “Old lacrosse shirt”. Mike gains 1 armor.
Liz drinks a wine! Liz gains 50 HP. Liz’s status changes to slightly drunk.
Dragon A crushes you all.
You die.
Never trust Robert.

I only make fun of Robert because he never reads this. Actually, I think this is a good start to my real life RPG starring all my friends.

Summon Night: Twin Age Coming May 20th

Summon Night: Twin Age Coming May 20th

There’s all kinds of Atlus news today, first Persona 4, now this. Summon Night: Twin Age is an action RPG for the DS that fully stylus controlled. The email goes on to detail that the stylus controls are “precise controls (no excessive line drawing to attack or squiggles in the corner of the screen to roll, folks)”, which is good but I’m not a huge fan of touch controls in games. I mean, for menus it’s one thing, but to use it solely, I don’t know. I couldn’t get into Phantom Hourglass because of the touch controls, it just wasn’t fun for me. Just because the DS has a touch screen doesn’t mean you need to make things more difficult and use them as the sole movement mechanism just to prove that you can do it.

Summon Night: Twin Age does look pretty cool though, reminds me of like Secret of Mana or something, though I never played the first so I have no idea what it will be like.

Get ready to experience a fully-stylus driven action RPG with precise controls (no excessive line drawing to attack or squiggles in the corner of the screen to roll, folks)!

Summon Night: Twin Age is headed to a Nintendo DS near you (hopefully yours) on May 20th! Two playable characters get to experience the story from different perspectives, which means seeing new things the second time through. Trade items with a friend via local wireless. Oh, and the game looks gorgeous, too. How dare you doubt me! Perhaps the trailer below is the proof you need:

Persona 4 Announced for PS2

How radical is this news? I’d say, from 1 to 10, an 11. I can’t hardly breathe, the awesomeness is just too much. This week’s Famitsu has tons of information about the upcoming Persona 4, which will be on the PS2. Persona 4 is set in the countryside and the story revolves around a murder mystery. Persona 4 will also have an interesting new feature, a weather forecasting system and whenever there is fog…a murder takes place, which is interesting…different. There will be 60-70 hours of gameplay and 180 personas, which seems like a lot (I can’t find how many were in Persona 3, but I don’t think there were 180).

Persona 4 is scheduled to be released July 10th in Japan. Hopefully we will see a U.S. release soon after.

Persona 3: FES U.S. Trailer

Wednesday, March 5th, 2008

If I had to use two words to describe Persona 3 to someone new to the series I would say this: “awesome…radical”.

I can’t wait to hear that same song remixed 20 different ways again.
