The standalone expansion for Disco Elysium, codenamed X7, has been cancelled, with around 24 employees at the developer company ZA/UM facing potential redundancy, according to confidential sources. This development comes from a difficult decision made by ZA/UM CEO Ilmar Kompus to focus his team’s efforts on the remaining two games after the cancelling of X7. Apart from the X7 team, non-development teams and other unrelated X7 projects may also be impacted by the reshuffling and potential layoffs.

An alleged follow-up to Disco Elysium was also reportedly scrapped in 2022, and another fresh sci-fi development, codenamed Project P1, was put on hold in 2023. Despite these setbacks, it’s believed that there are two active projects still under development at ZA/UM, one being related to Disco Elysium.

Accusations of poor management within the company have risen, with claims of an adversarial atmosphere being created by the leadership. The firing of Disco Elysium’s original creators from ZA/UM years ago ignited a legal battle and public dispute, which is seen as contributing to the current challenges facing the company.
