Helldivers 2, the surprise hit developed by Arrowhead Game Studios, has been plagued with several technical issues including server instability and crashes. In a bid to solve these problems, the developers have taken a bold step and capped the game’s concurrent player count at 450,000. This measure is a double-edged sword as it attempts to stabilize game performance but also potentially complicates issues for a title so heavily reliant on multiplayer, contributing to long log-in queues and server failure errors.
The aforementioned cap was announced in the official Helldivers 2 Discord and reported on Twitter by Wario64. The game, which just completed a bonus XP weekend to compensate for previous server instability issues, is now making server stability its top priority. To further this goal, a patch was rolled out as early as February 14 to enhance the matchmaking process.
While the player count cap may not be popular among gamers, Arrowhead assures that it is a temporary solution. The developer is actively striving to lift the cap further for better stability and to accommodate more users. Meanwhile, Helldivers 2 continues to be available for playing on PlayStation 5 and PC.
