Yoshitaka Murayama, the revered creator of Suikoden and Eiyuden Chronicles, sadly passed away on February 6 due to complications from an ongoing illness, as announced by his company, Rabbit and Bear Studios. His career began at Konami in 1992 where he eventually directed and wrote the acclaimed game, Suikoden, released in 1995 in Japan and 1996 in North America. In 2002, after working on the Suikoden series, he left Konami and founded Blue Moon Studios, creating 2005’s 10,000 Bullets and later heading Rabbit and Bear Studios to work on the upcoming Eiyuden Chronicles: Hundred Heroes, set to release in 2024.

The statement from Rabbit and Bear Studios mourned the loss, expressing sadness that Murayama would not get to see the fan reactions to his finalized work on Eiyuden Chronicle as scenario writer. Additionally, a remastered compilation for the first two games in the Suikoden series, titled Suikoden I & II HD Remaster: Gate Rune and Dunan Unification Wars, is expected to be released this year. The gaming industry grieves the absence of Murayama’s experienced hand and innovative mind during the release and celebration of these games.

Murayama has left an indelible impact on the world of gaming, with his body of work influencing many developers and players alike. His absence will be deeply felt by the gaming community and our thoughts are with his friends and family during this difficult time.
