Wizards of the Coast, creators of Magic: The Gathering, have announced an unexpected crossover featuring virtual idol Hatsune Miku. This will be part of the Secret Lair series, releasing a series of themed cards throughout 2024. The first set, titled Secret Lair x Hatsune Miku: Sakura Superstar, will be available from May 13th to June 2nd, priced at $29.99 for non-foil and $39.99 for rainbow foil. Concerns over potential reselling of these limited edition cards at inflated prices have been raised.
There will be four Hatsune Miku drops in 2024, each themed around a specific season. The first Sakura Superstar batch includes six cards, three of which are various Hatsune Miku versions of already existing MTG cards. The artwork on these themed cards is impressive, offering a refreshing alternative for players seeking a Vocaloid-themed deck.
In addition to the Hatsune Miku collaboration, other crossovers and sets are planned for 2024, including Assassin’s Creed with Ubisoft. A music video, created especially to promote the Hatsune Miku crossover, can be viewed on YouTube.
