Since its launch, Diablo 4 by Blizzard has experienced significant changes but the upcoming Season 4 update, Loot Reborn, is its most profound shift to date. The update will completely rework items—how they are dropped, their stats, and how they are upgraded. Across the Eternal and Seasonal realms, items are set to become fewer in number with fewer affixes. Many of the confusing, niche, or circumstantial affixes will be removed resulting in better-suited items for the player’s class and build. Furthermore, the introduction of two new ways to enhance items, Tempering and Masterworking, are expected to provide players more control over their item progression and offer the chance to battle their way through a new 200-floor endgame dungeon.
The Loot Reborn update is a response to feedback from players who expressed that it took too much time to manage their inventory and sort through items, reducing the time they could spend playing the actual game. The update will decrease the necessity of parsing the stats on numerous items which was always work-intensive and not enjoyable, according to both the lead live game designer Colin Finer and the lead live class designer Adam Jackson from Blizzard.
The introduction of Masterworking and Tempering will allow items to drop with fewer affixes and offer players the chance to add an additional affix with Tempering recipes. Coupled with the Enchanting system already present in the game, players can precisely tailor an item to their preferences. This is expected to open up new build possibilities, enhancing gameplay.
