Remedy Entertainment has announced the cancellation of the game codenamed “Kestrel” to concentrate on other projects in its pool. Originally a restart of an earlier project named “Vanguard” initiated in November 2023, “Kestrel” represented the early conceptual stage of a premium cooperative multiplayer game. Remedy Entertainment was developing this game, with co-financing from Tencent and plans for Tencent to co-publish it.
According to Remedy Entertainment, the discontinuation of “Kestrel” provides a chance to reallocate its seasoned developers to other ongoing game projects, which will significantly benefit from their expertise. The cancellation has also eliminated the demand for project-specific investment while lessening the company’s overall recruiting needs.
In a press statement, Remedy Entertainment CEO Tero Virtala stated that although “Kestrel” had shown promise in its early stages, the decision to stop its development is strategic to the betterment of Remedy as a whole. He expressed gratitude to both the “Kestrel” development team for their valuable insights, and Tencent for their supportive and professional partnership.
