Microsoft’s recent closure of four gaming studios, including prominent developer Tango Gameworks responsible for popular games such as The Evil Within, Ghostwire: Tokyo, and Hi-Fi Rush, has sparked significant backlash from gamers and developers. While many are disappointed by the company’s decision, fans of Hi-Fi Rush can take solace in the assurance that its physical edition will still be released, as stated by Limited Run Games. The company confirmed its previous intention to give Hi-Fi Rush a physical release despite the closure of the developer.
Limited Run Games and Tango Gameworks had indicated back in February that the physical edition of Hi-Fi Rush would be available on Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5. The game is one among the few former Xbox exclusives anticipated to be made available on other platforms within the year. Matt Booty, the head of Xbox Game Studios, ironically remarked in a town hall meeting about seeking “smaller games that give us prestige and awards”, a comment that Hi-Fi Rush ironically managed to live up to.
Even though Hi-Fi Rush remains playable on Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5, the inclusion of licensed music could prove to be a hurdle with the risk of the game getting delisted in the future. To safeguard against this, the forthcoming physical release from Limited Run serves to preserve the legacy of Hi-Fi Rush. Despite this reassurance, fans are eagerly awaiting an announcement for when preorders for Hi-Fi Rush will commence.
