Amazon Games has announced a partnership with Maverick Games, a studio formed by numerous veterans of Playground Games, to create a new narrative-led, open-world driving game for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. The team includes Mike Brown, Forza Horizon 5’s creative director, who stated that Maverick Games was founded to foster an environment of creativity and risk-taking. He expressed their excitement in working with the team at Amazon Games, who they found to be committed to giving developers space to innovate and create experiences players will find special.

The untitled game is a AAA project and might be more story-driven than the Forza Horizon series. Its key narrative input comes from lead writer Jamie Brittain, known for his work on British teen drama Skins. In an interview, Brittain championed the value of story-telling, suggesting that the new game will incorporate elements from television writing processes.

While the release date and title of the new game have not been announced by Amazon Games, they have a roster of other upcoming projects including a Tomb Raider game, a new edition to The Lord of the Rings MMO series, and NCSoft’s Throne and Liberty. More news is expected from Amazon Games with the commencement of the Summer Game Fest and IGN Live next week.
