In a surprising announcement, Capcom unveiled details about Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster, set to release on September 18, 2024. Developer Rysosuke Murai claimed the new release, running on the RE Engine at 4K 60fps, is more of a remake, with many enhancements including improved NPC behavior, the ability to move while aiming, and beneficial tweaks to the interface like autosave functionality. The remastered edition will be fully-voiced in nine languages, and there will also be a digital deluxe version featuring additional costumes and mall background music, with a physical release slated for November 2024.
The game’s reboot has been speculated for some time, especially after a recent Capcom survey asked fans if they’d be interested in seeing sequels or spin-offs of some quiet franchises, Dead Rising included. The original title, launched exclusively on Xbox 360 in 2006, marked the start of a successful series for Capcom, spawning three sequels throughout the late 2000s and 2010s. Negative sales performance of the most recent installment, Dead Rising 4, in 2016, led to the game’s termination and the closure of the game’s developer, Capcom Vancouver.
Despite initial skepticism about its simplicity, Dead Rising was hailed by IGN as a deeply immersive game with numerous extras and considerable NPC interaction, setting hopeful expectations for its upcoming Deluxe Remaster. Interestingly, Dead Rising was one of the most coveted games available exclusively on the Xbox 360 when it was first released.
