In a seemingly orchestrated attempt to get me to mention the term “boner” twice in the same day, campy horror shooter game Shadows Of The Damned: Hella Remastered is set to launch this Halloween, 31st October 2024. This revamped version of the 2011 console game, announced earlier in the year, essentially consists of the original game plus a few costume additions and new game plus, aiming to satisfy fans of the first version. Described as a “hot-blooded, hellishly twisted, feverishly filthy, love and hate filled road trip” on its Steam page, the game involves the audacious Garcia Hotspur and his skeletal buddy, Johnson, navigating the infernal underworld to rescue Garcia’s abducted lover, Paula, from Fleming, the Lord of the Underworld.
Shadows Of The Damned was formed from a partnership between Grasshopper Manufacture’s Suda 51 and Resident Evil’s Shinji Mikami, and is known to have sparked some tensions with publisher EA during its creation. In a recent interview, Suda shared some details about a gun character sporting a miniature version of Paula, who would interact with the gamers. This, however, was shot down by the publisher under the guise that “Americans hate little girls”.
In related developments, the credits from Shadows Of The Damned: Hella Remastered released earlier in March revealed that Shinji Mikami has launched a new studio. This happened a year after he left Tango Gameworks, which has since shut down – a firm that Edwin opines should be recognized for more than just Mikami’s work.
