Four years post its PC-only release, Riot’s first live-service shooter, Valorant, is now playable on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Console users had been anticipating Valorant’s release since its initial launch in 2020, and their excitement peaked when the console launch was officially announced during Summer Game Fest. Following a successful open beta in July, console players’ wish has been fulfilled.
Currently, the free-to-play first-person hero shooter is only accessible on consoles in the United States, Canada, Europe, Brazil, and Japan. However, Riot aims to make the game available to everyone, maintaining the quality for which it was designed, suggesting a potential future availability for players in other parts of the world. The console version comes with all features available in the PC version and both versions will receive updates simultaneously.
However, cross-play between console and PC players isn’t enabled to maintain Valorant’s renowned standard for competitive integrity. Riot hasn’t indicated whether PC players will be able to team up with their console counterparts in the future. Final note, console players caught using a mouse and keyboard will face a ban.
