Sony’s financial results have revealed that, as of June 30, 2024, the company has shipped a total of 61.8 million PlayStation 5 units worldwide. Despite a decrease of 0.9 million units during the three months ending June, with 2.4 million shipped, Sony also announced an increase in PlayStation Network’s monthly active users, with 116 million – an uptick of eight million from the same period in the previous fiscal year.
Sales of PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 software combined reached 53.6 million units for the three months ending June 30, 2024. Although this is a slight drop of 2.9 million from the same period the previous year, notably, six million of these units were first-party titles, despite a 0.6 million decrease compared to the same period the previous year.
The company also unveiled that digital downloads represent a growing sales category, accounting for 80 percent of all software sales, an increase of eight percent from the same period in the previous fiscal year. The data suggests that the PlayStation platform remains resilient, with robust user engagement and the increasing popularity of digital purchases.
