The film adaptation of the video game “Borderlands” has resulted in a severe box office flop, with critics and fans responding negatively. After launching with a zero percent score on Rotten Tomatoes, the film’s score increased slightly to eight percent but has still shown underwhelming results at the box office. “Borderlands”, which reportedly cost $145 million to produce and market, made a disappointing $16.5 million globally in its opening weekend, including a mere $8.8 million domestically.
The movie, directed by Eli Roth and featuring stars such as Cate Blanchett, Kevin Hart, and Jack Black, has drastically fallen short of recovering its production costs and appears unlikely to make a profit. Audience interest seems to mirror the critical reception, with many fans opting to stay away from the theaters.
Despite the film’s disappointing performance, fans of the “Borderlands” franchise can still enjoy the original video game series on Nintendo Switch. For those considering watching the film despite its poor reviews, they should anticipate a less-than-packed cinema experience.
