Nintendo introduced a new format for its live Nintendo Direct broadcast in August, with a mixture of Partner news and Indie World content. The 40-minute broadcast featured news, trailers, and announcements from both major third-party developers and independent teams. Despite desires for details on its “Nintendo Switch successor”, slated for release in 2025, Nintendo did not share any updates.
A myriad of new games were announced and trailers shown during the broadcast. Several surprise launches for Nintendo Switch were made on Tuesday, though “Hollow Knight: Silksong” was noticeably absent. Standouts include “Tetris Forever”, a collection of classic Tetris games including a new game, “Tetris Time Warp” launching this year, and the Nintendo Entertainment System version of “Tetris” making its way to Nintendo Switch Online.
Other notable announcements included “Star Overdrive”, a game set in a vast world where creativity is crucial to overcome challenges, launching next year, and the unexpected launch of “Goat Simulator 3”, the latest installment of the chaotic Goat Simulator franchise, on Nintendo Switch. Fans can expect a physical version of Goat Simulator 3 to be made available in the future.
