The highly awaited remake of the RPG series, The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky, was unveiled in an unceremonious manner during Nintendo Direct’s session. Nestled within a short sizzle reel, the reveal for the newly titled The Legends of Heroes: Trails in the Sky the 1st lasted a scant 10 seconds, leaving fans scrambling for more information. The announcement was mixed alongside others like the new Star Wars: Hunters season, S.T.A.L.K.E.R Trilogy, and several live service games updates, sandwiched between trailers for Goat Simulator 3 and SpongeBob SquarePants: The Patrick Star Game.
Although the reveal was unexpected and brief, fans showed both confusion and excitement across forums and Reddit threads. It caused a stir amongst fans with the common consensus being annoyance at the abbreviated announcement but excitement for the remake. Notably, on the ResetEra forum, a comment from a user named Steamy Manatee reflected the overall sentiment: “I will never forgive them for announcing this in a montage. But hype.” This mixture of feelings was echoed in a remark by Bloomberg Reporter Jason Schreier: “I cannot believe they just casually dropped this in a sizzle reel and gave full spots to Sponge Bob and fitness boxing.”
Despite the unconventional reveal, there is widespread agreement among fans that they are thrilled with what they have seen so far. Notably, the remake is not just an aesthetic update, but a complete transformation from the original 2D isometric style to a full 3D design. The release of The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky the 1st is scheduled for 2025, with Nintendo Switch being the only confirmed platform so far.
