Square Enix has unveiled new screenshots and game features for the anticipated Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake. The game starts in the kingdom of Aliahan, where the protagonist, the child of Ortega, is ordered to fulfill their father’s quest on their 16th birthday. Players will now have exciting new party customisation options, including a fresh vocation and absorbing Monster Arenas.
In the original game, players were restricted to selecting their allies’ vocations, influencing their role and skills. The remake, however, permits players to choose their appearance, voice, and personality, impacting their strengths and weaknesses. There is also the opportunity to register allies for another playthrough, retaining their attributes, level, and equipment. The Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake introduces additional vocations like the Monster Wrangler class, allowing players to befriend various monsters and deploy their abilities in battles.
The Monster Arenas feature lets players pit their team of three monsters against other trainers for gold and other prizes. Monsters operate independently, but their actions can be influenced by player-set tactics. The original Dragon Quest III, released in 1988, prequels the other games in the connected Erdrick saga. The next iteration, Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake, set to release on November 14, 2024, for PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch, will precede the Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D Remake to follow.
