Sony has increased the cost of their standard PS5 DualSense controllers by $5 with the black and white versions now retailing at $75, up from $70, while other editions have gone from $75 to $80. However, deals can still be found with retailers such as Antonline via Amazon offering the black and white versions at the original $70 price. Notably, the DualSense Edge’s price remains unchanged at $200.
This is not the first price hike from Sony in recent times, as they have also raised the PS5 console price in Japan and various other global markets, though not in the US. The company stated the increases are due to worldwide economic conditions. Despite a decrease in PS5 hardware sales (27% YoY for Q1 of fiscal year 2024), Sony has surpassed 60 million lifetime sales of the PS5 console.
In the wider gaming market, Microsoft has followed suit by raising the prices of Xbox and Game Pass subscriptions, while Nintendo has kept their Switch console prices steady. There are also rumors that a PS5 Pro might be launched later this year with a speculated price tag of $600 or more.
