The Entire Staff of Annapurna Interactive’s Gaming Department has Stepped Down

The entirety of Annapurna Interactive’s gaming staff, including President Nathan Gary, has resigned amid a leadership disagreement. According to Bloomberg and confirmed by IGN, Gary had been in discussions with Megan Ellison, founder of Annapurna Pictures (which Annapurna Interactive is a division of), to establish the video game division as an independent entity. When Ellison ended the negotiations, Gary and other executives quit, and more than two dozen employees followed suit, calling it one of the toughest choices they have ever made.

This mass exodus has caused confusion among game developers unsure of who to turn to for game publishing guidance. However, Hector Sanchez, co-founder and new president of Annapurna Interactive, reassured game developers that the company will uphold existing contracts and will hire staff to replace those who have left. Annapurna Interactive, since its inception in 2017, has a notable list of published games, including plaudit-winning titles such as “What Remains of Edith Finch,” “Flower,” “Outer Wilds,” “Stray,” “Thirsty Suitors,” “Lorelei and the Laser Eyes,” and a few more in the pipeline.
