A long-awaited update to the popular farming simulation game, Stardew Valley, is finally launching on mobile and console platforms. The man behind the game, Eric Barone, also known as ConcernedApe, revealed on his official Twitter account that version 1.6 would be available for all console and mobile versions of the game, including Nintendo Switch, from November 4, 2024.
Renowned in the gaming world for creating a game that has sold over 30 million copies, Barone also mentioned that almost all new features introduced by the 1.6 update can be experienced with existing saved game data. However, he encouraged players who have even a smidgen of interest in beginning anew to consider starting a fresh game.
He explained that the 1.6 update brings different experiences to players depending on whether it’s their first year or further years into the game. In short, the farming simulation experience in Stardew Valley just got more satisfying and entertaining under the freshness that a new game brings.
The game’s legion of fans have eagerly awaited the arrival of the 1.6 update on console and mobile platforms for eight months since its launch on PC in March. Barone had originally planned to release the updated ports just a month after the PC release. Unfortunately, technical difficulties with the console and mobile ports halted the game developer’s progress, much to the disappointment of Stardew Valley’s vibrant player base.
Notably, this has also paused the development on his next highly anticipated title, Haunted Chocolatier, which was announced in 2021 but currently has no clear release date.
In an effort to appease disgruntled fans, Barone assured them that he would not return to working on Haunted Chocolatier until he’d completed the 1.6 update for Stardew Valley. This is a reassurance from the developer that his undivided attention is committed to resolving the issues at hand and come through for his dedicated fans.
Elaborating about the delayed update on Twitter, Barone outlined his habitually cautious approach of releasing versions on PC first. This he likened to a form of ‘beta testing’ to root out any potential critical bugs before releasing on consoles, where patching takes significantly longer. However, he expressed his regret about the extended delay this time around, a delay he hadn’t intended.
On a lighter note, Barone has also mentioned a possible crossover between Starkew Valley and the globally popular Fortnite, particularly pointing out his keen interest to include the Stardew Valley character Pam in this exciting venture.
To sum up, despite the speed bumps along the way, the developer behind Stardew Valley, Eric Barone shares similar anticipation with his fans for the forthcoming release of the 1.6 update on console and mobile platforms. Game on, farmers!
