Video game developers Atlus have unveiled an intriguing new piece of merchandise, a wall clock that can play a selection of songs from the beloved title, “Persona 4 Golden.” In a unique collaboration, they are partnering with another prominent player in the gaming world, Square Enix, to bring this clock to market.
A spinoff from the main line of “Persona” merchandise, which normally includes character plush toys and figures, this wall clock seems to be a novelty item engaging fans’ nostalgia with musical elements from the game. Pre-orders for the soundtrack-infused wall clock have already sprung into action via Square Enix’s Japanese e-store.
Dubbed the “Persona 4 Golden Melody Clock,” this distinctive product will commence shipping in February 2025. It carries a price within an affordable range, set at 16,280 yen (which roughly translates to $112.75).
The ‘Persona 4 Golden Melody Clock’ is not your average wall clock. This unique creation comes equipped with a function that plays a tune every hour, specifically when the minute hand points to 12. Twelve different songs from the “Persona 4 Golden” game soundtrack have been embedded into the clock’s mechanics, providing an audible reminiscence to the fans.
The song list includes popular melodies from the game such as “Pursuing My True Self,” “Signs Of Love,” “Your Affection,” “Heartbeat, Heartbreak,” “Reach Out To The Truth,” “I’ll Face Myself -Battle-,” “Shadow World,” “Time To Make History,” “Heaven,” “The Fog,” “The Poem for Everyone’s Souls,” and “Never More”. Each hour introduces a different song, adding an element of surprise for the owner.
However, Atlus has ensured that the clock won’t be a nuisance. It has been engineered to incorporate a light sensor, which helps it determine when to play a melody. If the ambient light levels in the room plummet to darkness, the clock acknowledges this as nighttime or sleep time and refrains from playing any music, sparing any sleeping inhabitants from being disturbed.
Atlus has been creative with their merchandise before, having released a variety of personas as plush toys and figures. The “Persona 4 Golden Melody Clock” isn’t their first foray into unique merchandise that deviates from the typical game figurines and plushies. For instance, in 2023, fans were treated to a sake bottle featuring the beloved character Teddie.
