Known for their engaging video games, the renowned Coffee Stain Publishing and game developer Lavapotion have announced the upcoming release of their turn-based strategy role-playing game, Songs of Conquest, set to launch this winter for the PlayStation 5 and the Xbox Series. Additionally, with soaring anticipation from gaming enthusiasts, the RPG will also be accessible on iOS and Android platforms in the summer of 2025.
Songs of Conquest, first introduced to gamers during an Early Access phase for PC, and made available through Steam, Epic Games Store and GOG, on May 10th, 2022, has been enjoying a successful run since its full release on May 20th, 2024. Further enhancing the immersive gameplay experience, Songs of Conquest will also be provided on an as-yet-undisclosed gaming platform, speculated to be either the Nintendo Switch line or its forthcoming successor, in the winter of 2025.
Furthermore, Coffee Stain Publishing and Lavapotion have excitedly revealed that they will be launching a series of paid downloadable content (DLC) to heighten the user experience. Beginning with the “Vanir” DLC, set to launch this winter, to be followed by the “Roots” release in summer 2025, and subsequently a further DLC featuring a brand new faction, scheduled for winter 2025. These expansions will add inventive elements into the game such as fresh factions, an array of units, biomes and Wielders, and an entirely new narrative.
Set in the striking world of Songs of Conquest, the eagerly anticipated “Vanir” DLC promises a unique expansion, introducing fascinating features inspired by Viking and Scandinavian folklore. Within this vivid and perilous world, gamers will meet the Vanir faction, a lineage of settlers turned raiders, exploring treacherous territories in search of treasures. The setting, the Bleak East region, is inhabited by volatile beings known as Vildra, which the Vanir have learnt to shift into, unleashing power and rage.
Lavapotion has created an immersive gameplay experience where players leading the Vanir faction can opt to embrace the beastly power of Vildra or remain human. With each choice leading to new units, the scope of exploration and conquest is vast. Characters range from the sturdy Huskarl, a spear and shield-equipped warrior who can morph into a Korphan, a terrorising beast, to a Berserker, an unstoppable force that can take bear form, down to the commanding Chieftain, who can increase in size to become a formidable giant beast. Each character has its unique array of powers, all set to engage players in a thrilling gameplay experience.
Moreover, the inclusion of new Conquest maps and Challenge maps with the DLC release further intensifies the gameplay experience. These maps, set against the snowy backdrops of the Bleak East region, provides gamers with a layered challenge to grasp the nuances of this new faction.
Lavapotion CEO and founder, Magnus Alm, has expressed his excitement towards the upcoming factions and DLCs. In a press release, Alm stated that while they originally planned a larger expansion, they decided to listen to their fans’ requests for more immediate content, thus leading to the launch of the “Vanir” DLC this coming winter.
As Coffee Stain Publishing and Lavapotion prepare for the DLC releases, the gaming community avidly waits to delve deeper into Songs of Conquest, only adding to the game’s already thriving success.
