The enthralling action game, Stellar Blade, is set to launch its much-awaited downloadable content (DLC) from the cult-classic Nier: Automata on November 20. This exciting addition is an integral part of a broader update, which also brings an interactive photo mode into play.
The brains behind Stellar Blade, development team Shift Up, scribed the news in a PlayStation Blog post. They shared how Nier: Automata served as significant inspiration for their creation. Yoko Taro, the renowned director of Nier: Automata, and Kim Hyung Tae, the director of Stellar Blade, were both instrumental in bringing this creative collaboration to life.
The blog post offered gamers a glimpse of the Nier: Automata protagonist, 2B, in the surreal universe of Stellar Blade, accompanied by the eccentric Emil. Glamorously cloaked in mystery, the update hints at Emil’s Shop, a surprise feature set to debut in Stellar Blade with a collection of 11 exclusive collaborative items. These items promise to merge the magic of both games, enabling gamers to venture into an enriched world.
New costumes and an exciting addition to Stellar Blade’s upcoming offering will be the photo mode. The feature provides gamers with the capability of posing their characters and dressing them up in a variety of outfits to seize that perfect snapshot. Also accompanying this new facet are four fresh costumes and a novel accessory: the Symbol of Legacy. Additionally, the update presents the option to completely eliminate Eve’s ponytail.
On the subject of audio enhancements, the developers are adding multiple new features. Players will get the power to select their music from the camp turntable. An added bonus is the lip-sync support, available in multiple languages, including French, Spanish, Latin American Spanish, Italian, German, and Portuguese.
In addition to Nier: Automata, Stellar Blade finds its creative muse in various sources. These include Alita: Battle Angel, 80s and 90s science fiction, and an intriguing spark of inspiration from a taxi driver strike, as revealed by director Hyung Tae. The game has also received a host of further improvements in a series of post-launch updates, featuring new challenges and costume additions.
The action-packed Stellar Blade has impressed, scoring a commendable 7 out of 10 from our reviewers at Awesome Radical Gaming. As an action game, it excels, but the game falls short in areas including character depth, storyline, and a few frustrating elements in terms of RPG mechanics.
In the realm of business, Shift Up obtained a staggering 435 billion won ($320 million) during its first trading day, following an initial public offering. This achievement marked a historic moment for the industry, with Bloomberg noting it as the largest for a gaming company in the country since 2021. That year saw PUBG creator Krafton Inc. raise an incredible $3.8 billion from its IPO.
Success came for Shift Up following the launch of the PS5 exclusive, Stellar Blade, which saw phenomenal sales of over a million copies. The company could potentially extend the Stellar Blade universe with a sequel and a PC version. The developer’s mobile game, Goddess of Victory: Nikke, also contributed to their success.
With the collaboration of Yoko Taro and Kim Hyung Tae, gamers across the globe eagerly anticipate the Stellar Blade, Nier: Automata DLC, as they wait to plunge into this captivating digital world.
