Devotees of the Metroid series have been chomping at the bit for nearly two decades, eagerly awaiting the arrival of Metroid Prime 4: Beyond. After an official announcement of the sequel in June 2017, preorders were made available on Amazon. Despite the game’s protracted development timeline, the preorders have remained in effect. However, a surprising turn of events saw Amazon recently cancelling these enduring preorders, much to the dismay of avid gamers.
One could speculate that the cancellations stemmed from an oversight by Amazon, rather than foreboding news concerning Metroid Prime 4, such as a delay or, worse still, a cancelation. Attempts have been made for clarity on the situation from Nintendo. It has also been observed that a senior preorder item, a Metroid Prime 4 that was bought at a discount for $48, was among the orders Amazon canceled.
Following the initial proclamation of Metroid Prime 4: Beyond in 2017, Nintendo made a subsequent revelation in 2019. This news was to let eager gamers know of their intentions to abandon the current development path of Metroid Prime 4 and to start anew with Retro Studios. Retro Studios was the very same studio that breathed life into the initial Metroid Prime trilogy, a fact that will undoubtedly please fans of the franchise.
During the arduous years in between announcements, Nintendo kept fans entertained with the releases of Metroid Dread, a standalone title, and a remastered version of the original Metroid Prime for the Switch. Furthermore, remastered versions of Metroid Prime 2: Echoes and Metroid Prime 3: Corruption for the Switch have been suggested, adding yet more anticipation for Metroid fans.
Samus Aran, the lead character in the Metroid series, remains an ever-present contender in the ongoing Super Smash Bros. saga, ensuring that the character’s prominence doesn’t wane. All things considered, followers who wish to stay up-to-date with the latest in the life of Samus should probably take the time to refresh their knowledge on everything that has transpired in the Metroid Prime games to date.
Nintendo recently reaffirmed that Metroid Prime 4: Beyond is on track for a 2025 release, but as we have become accustomed to with this highly anticipated launch, there is no specific release date just yet. Despite these delays and hiccups, there’s little doubt that the extended wait will all but add to the fevered excitement that surrounds the Metroid series.
