In the much-anticipated live-action movie adaptation of The Legend of Zelda, the iconic roles of Link and Zelda have been secured by two impressive British actors. Zelda will be portrayed by Bo Bragason, while Benjamin Evan Ainsworth will bring to life the character of Link. It was the influential game designer and noted Zelda creator, Shigeru Miyamoto, who broke the news on Wednesday through Nintendo’s official platform.

The gaming world veteran expressed his enthusiasm about the casting choice, revealing his eagerness to see the actors translate the beloved characters on the big screen. Along with the announcement, Miyamoto shared images of the duo presented in environs aligning with a medieval fantasy ambiance. However, it remains uncertain whether these pictures illustrated the actors in their respective character outfits. If this is indeed the case, the choice regarding Ainsworth’s dark hair color may raise eyebrows amongst hardcore fans, as Link has consistently been presented as a blond in the game series.

Bragason, aged 21, recently appeared in the Disney Plus series Renegade Nell, playing the role of Nell’s sister. Ainsworth, who is 16, is known for his performance as Miles in Mike Flanagan’s acclaimed Netflix horror series The Haunting of Bly Manor. He also voiced Pinocchio in Robert Zemeckis’ reimagining of Pinocchio and appeared as Alex Burgess in the episode ‘Sleep of the Just’ from the series The Sandman.

Set to be a joint venture between Nintendo and Sony Pictures, the Zelda movie is dated for a cinema release on May 7, 2027. Wes Ball, known for his work on The Maze Runner and Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, will helm the director’s chair.
