The long-dormant Friday the 13th franchise is showing signs of revival. For over a decade, copyright issues had left the film series in limbo, also leading to the shutdown of the servers for the Friday the 13th game, rendering it unplayable. However, with the rights issue resolved last year, the Jason Universe was announced – a multimedia project promising films, games, and more. Recent announcements at the San Diego Comic-Con revealed that a new game based on the franchise is indeed in the works.

The news came from Robbie Barsamian, VP of Horror Inc., where he confirmed during a panel discussion that a new movie and game sequel are top priority. ‘Our primary focus is on these sequels. We are finally in a position to deliver on that promise. While we may not be officially announcing it with our partners today, both projects are currently in development’, said Barsamian. Although it’s still early days in the process, Barsamian’s comments align with the current zeitgeist and excitement within the franchise’s fanbase.

While concrete details about these upcoming projects might not be immediately available, fans of the horror genre have some good news to look forward to. In the meantime, another iconic horror series is making its way into games, Hellraiser: Revival. The game will be a first-person survival horror with a new storyline set within the eerie universe of Hellraiser. The anticipated game is planned for release on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC. However, no definitive release window has been announced as of yet.

With the announcement of these upcoming projects, Friday the 13th franchise seems poised for a resurgence, and, along with the Hellraiser game, is certainly keeping horror fans on the edge of their seats.
