An underappreciated GameCube classic is coming to the Nintendo Switch 2. One of the most cherished games from the GameCube era, that most are likely unfamiliar with, will be accessible to Nintendo Switch 2 owners next week.nnOn August 21, gamers who hold the Nintendo Switch expansion pass for the Nintendo Switch 2 console will unlock access to ‘Chibi-Robo’, a rare gem in the GameCube’s rich library and an outlier in Nintendo’s esteemed catalog. For those fortunate enough to have played it, the game is a source of incredible joy and is finally getting its first significant re-release since its initial debut on GameCube.nnOriginally designed for the Nintendo Wii as an exclusive to the Gamecube Classic series, ‘Chibi-Robo’ unfortunately only saw a release in Japan and was left behind in the West. However, it has not completely faded from memory in the US and other Western regions due to its ‘Zipline Dash’ rendition on Nintendo 3DS. But the less said about that version, the better…nnIn the West, acquiring a Gamecube copy of ‘Chibi-Robo’ demands a hefty sum, often several hundred dollars. Up until now, it was the only accessible method of playing the game in numerous regions. With its unexpected digital re-release, hopefully, more players will have the opportunity to finally enjoy this peculiar yet captivating title. This game truly deserves a shot, and hopefully, folks will find just as much joy and whimsy as I did years ago. It remains one of my cherished picks from that generation.nnChibi-Robo is not your typical game. You play as a tiny robot tasked with tidying up a dwelling. While this premise might sound mundane initially, adventures soon flourish as you meet wonderfully quirky characters, unravel the secrets of the family’s past, and commence bizarre extraterrestrial encounters. This unsuspecting, domestic robot’s life is anything but dull!nnWithout giving too much away, it’s an adventure that I’d rather players experience firsthand. But please, I urge everyone to try this game—I found it an utter delight to play.nnIn order to experience Chibi-Robo on the Switch 2 console, you’ll need to be part of the expansion pass version of the Switch Online service. Unfortunately, the game isn’t compatible with the original Nintendo Switch; only Switch 2 owners, like all other Gamecube games in the Nintendo Classics library, can enjoy this gem.nnThe game is set for a global release on August 21, 2025.
