During a recent Nintendo Live Broadcast, an exciting surprise for gaming enthusiasts was announced: both Super Mario Galaxy and Super Mario Galaxy 2 will be released collectively and individually on Nintendo Switch 2, dated soon as October 2.
Celebrating Super Mario’s 40th Anniversary, this comes as a bundle package. Additionally, another piece of exciting news – the maiden Super Mario Galaxy Movie was teased to the fans, right before this Galaxy games announcement. The much-anticipated flick is set to hit big screens in May 2026.
Nintendo didn’t just limit the announcements to these two space-themed adventures. Other Mario-related titles were revealed during the broadcast, such as Super Mario Bros. Wonder Nintendo Switch 2 Edition, Mario Tennis Fever, and Meetup in Bellabel Park. In addition, a first-look at Yoshi and the Mysterious Book, a new game starring Mario’s trusty steed, rounded out the Super Mario Bros. 40th Anniversary announcements.
For many fans, Super Mario Galaxy brings back fond gaming memories. It first launched for the Nintendo Wii in 2007, and the sequel landed on Wii in 2010. Super Mario Galaxy made a comeback as part of the Super Mario 3D All-Stars bundle for the 35th Anniversary celebration in 2020. However, this marks the first re-release of Super Mario Galaxy 2 since its original launch a decade ago.
The live broadcast also revealed some interesting information related to other games’ release on Switch 2. Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade’s Switch 2 port is confirmed for release on January 22, while Hades 2’s Nintendo Switch 2 Edition is scheduled for September 25 launch.
As the gaming season heats up, we can wait with bated breath for what Nintendo has in store for us next. With the availability of these popular titles on the new platform, Nintendo Switch 2 promises a fun and thrilling gaming experience in the months to come.
