Images have emerged slyly hinting at what could have been an intriguing addition to the God Of War gaming series. These surreptitiously-released screenshots appear to be from Bluepoint’s discarded live service God Of War endeavour, which was apparently dropped by Sony this year. The same fate was met by another video game from the creators of Days Gone, Sony Bend.nnThe shots are notably imbued with Ancient Greek stylistic elements. This might be unexpected given that the recent installations of God of War series have been primarily set in Nordic mythological backgrounds with scant references to Kratos’s days in the Greek mythos. The person who unveiled these images claimed that the game could have potentially starred Hades, the mythological ruler of underworld, in the role of an armory master. This storyline appears to have been set in the timeline before God Of War 3. The images, featuring cave ceilings and yellow sulfur pools, hint at a location reminiscent of Stygian myth. The indoor locations depicted in the snapshots, showing ruptured bridges and balconies, suggest segments of navigational challenge.nnWhat rivets the viewer’s attention in these stills are the traditional vessels or pottery. They exhibit a rhapsody of lime green, charcoal black, and deepest terracotta, with these colors fading to reveal the raw pink underneath. The pot designs are captivating with their ornate designs, tiny handles and evidences of long use. The anticipation of smashing these pots, a staple in action-RPGs dynamics would have added thrill to the gameplay, regardless of the narrative woven around it.nnRegardless of their appeal, they did not meet Sony’s stringent publishing standards. Sony, after heavily investing in live service games in the recent past, appears to be dialing back following certain unsuccessful ventures, including Concord which had a disappointingly short run. Despite the projected cancellation of God Of War, Bluepoint was recently seen seeking a senior combat designer with comprehensive knowledge of combat mechanics in third-person melee action games to add to their crew.
