Expect an immersive dive into the animated world of Mario, Peach, and Luigi as Nintendo prepares to launch a new Nintendo Direct concentrating solely on The Super Mario Galaxy Movie. This showcase is set to go live on Sunday, January 25th, marking a departure from the usual discussions focused on upcoming Switch 2 games.

The Super Mario Galaxy Movie sequel has been causing quite the anticipation, and gamers worldwide have been yearning for a sneak peek. However, it’s crucial to put out that this specific Direct will not cover any gaming updates – as Nintendo clarified on their social platforms, “No game information will be included in the upcoming presentation.”

The Super Mario Galaxy Movie was officially publicized in September 2025 along with short footage previewing the 2026 animation. The movie is set to hit cinemas on April 3rd, boasting an impressive cast with Chris Pratt as Mario, Anya Taylor-Joy as Peach, Charlie Day as Luigi, Jack Black as Bowser, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad and Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek all returning. Actress Brie Larson and Benny Safdie are expected to debut as Rosalina and Bowser Jr.

Given The Super Mario Bros. Movie’s immense success in 2023 with a whopping $1.36 billion box office revenue positioning it as the most lucrative video game adaptation and sixth highest-grossing animated film, expectations are soaring for this sequel.

The latest Mario movie, launching in the very year marking the 40th anniversary of the original Super Mario Bros. game, is part of a significant 2026 lineup from Nintendo. This lineup includes new releases for the year – Mario Tennis Fever set to roll out in February, an upgraded Wonder edition of Super Mario Bros. available on Nintendo Switch 2 in March, and Yoshi’s new platformer, Yoshi and the Mysterious Book, whose release is yet to be determined by our green little friend.

The upcoming Nintendo Direct is scheduled to commence at 9 a.m. EST/6 a.m. PST on Jan. 25, with a live stream available on Nintendo’s YouTube channel. While gamers may have yearned for some updates regarding Super Mario Galaxy 3, speculation about its appearance has been denounced by Nintendo. Still, with the fun and excitement bundled into one Direct just around the corner, there’s plenty to look forward to.
