The gaming world buzzed with excitement the moment it was announced during PlayStation’s State of Play stream in February, that the God of War trilogy would be undergoing a revival. In addition, Sony Santa Monica Studios took the opportunity to surprise their fans with the introduction of a fresh 2D game into the iconic series, titled ‘God of War: Son of Sparta’, which is currently available to play. According to Sony’s presentation, the most anticipated announcement took center stage, revealing that the first three games from the monumental God of War series would be remade. While there was no gameplay footage or release dates announced, a confirmation of the development project was communicated via a logo release, hinting that the project is still in its infancy. However, God of War fans are encouraged to remain patient as the remake project takes shape.
Leaving no room for suspense, ‘God of War: Son of Sparta’ made its unexpected debut during the same announcement. This new addition to the God of War roster – a prequel – has been designed by the talented team at Mega Cat Studios and it plays out as a 2D game. It allows players to delve into an untold narrative from Kratos’ life during his early years. After God of War’s 2018 game closed with Kratos reminiscing about his Spartan ally Atreus, it can’t be mistaken that this 2D adventure is designed to broaden the understanding of this deep bond. ‘Son of Sparta’ offers robust 2D gameplay and immersive storytelling delivered by none other than TC Carson – the original voice actor for Kratos character. Currently available for sale, you can nab the standard version of the game for $30, or opt for a more comprehensive digital deluxe version for $40.
The gaming community have been anticipating these developments for quite some time with the rumor mill suggesting a God of War trilogy remaster as long as two years ago. Rumblings about a 2D game based on God of War also traced back to last March. In conclusion, the remake of the God of War trilogy is officially confirmed to be in product development, while the all-new, ‘God of War: Son of Sparta’ is ready to play on PlayStation 5.
