Castlevania – now there’s a name that has been absent from the gaming world for a substantial amount of time. In what seems like a revival, Konami has recently announced its return to the gaming sector. A promising clutch of forthcoming releases from eminent franchises has created a palpable buzz in the gaming community. Of particular interest among these releases is the announcement of Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse. This is a new iteration of the, by now almost mythical, side-scrolling game in the much-loved action-horror series. The game’s projected release is scheduled for 2026 and is expected to be available across PS5, Nintendo Switch, Xbox, and PC platforms. As per current status, Belmont’s Curse is available for preorder at $39.99.
The preorder is for the standard version of the game, which appears to be the only version that will be available initially. The lack of a digital edition currently has created some anticipation, as the general expectation is that a digital deluxe edition might become available for preorder subsequently. Updates regarding this will be communicated appropriately once the game is accessible on major digital platforms.
Interestingly, there haven’t been any announcements regarding preorder bonuses. However, gaming veterans will agree that such bonuses occasionally do become available closer to the game’s release date.
For those unfamiliar with the original series, Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse marks the first introduction of a brand-new, side-scrolling game in the Castlevania series since Order of Ecclesia that was released on Nintendo DS in 2008. Following eighteen long years of anticipation, Konami has finally decided to quench this thirst for a novel game.
Here’s a more detailed look into what this new game offers: Belmont’s Curse introduces a storyline set in 1499 Paris, besieged by a monstrous invasion – a narrative situated 23 years post the events unfolded in the NES game, Castlevania III: Dracula’s Curse. The game appears designed for traditional side-scrolling action game fans, with specific features that evoke echoes of games like Castlevania: Symphony of the Night and installments from the early 2000s.
The gameplay seems pleasingly familiar – complete with plenty of platforms to leap from, rings to swing on, and enemies to confront. Players will be negotiating environmental hazards and combating towering bosses. There are also additional bonuses like a flame spell and a boomerang-like cross, providing a nostalgic tribute to the original series. The trailer offers a compelling sneak peek into the game’s aesthetic and mechanics.
