Bloodborne Remake Reportedly Axed by FromSoftware

The difficulty of obtaining a Bloodborne update might be harder than confronting Ludwing, the Holy Blade. According to inside reports, a proposed Bloodborne remake by Sony got suppressed by FromSoftware. It is suggested that FromSoftware, the developer behind Elden Ring, is uninterested in any other parties taking up the mantle of remaking Bloodborne. This includes the soon-to-shut studio, Bluepoint Games, as discussed in a recent report. Bluepoint proposed a Bloodborne remake to the parent company, Sony Interactive Entertainment, in 2025, only to get turned down by FromSoftware.

The figures added up, but FromSoftware was not on board with the concept. Bluepoint had previously worked on another remake of a different FromSoft game, Demon’s Souls for PlayStation 5. Bloodborne fans have been clamoring for a remake or an update for PlayStation 5 from the original PlayStation 4 game. This demand has grown following Bluepoint’s impressive work on Demon’s Souls and the remakes of Shadow of the Colossus.

However, nothing has come of this, potentially due to the reluctance from Bloodborne game director and FromSoftware president Hidetaka Miyazaki to have any external force change his creation. This is a piece of information from former PlayStation executive Shuhei Yoshida, who said that Bloodborne was the most requested thing by PlayStation fans. Yoshida suggested that Miyazaki’s affection for Bloodborne made him unwilling to entrust others with remaking or modifying his work. He think Miyazaki is interested, but he is so successful and busy. He can’t do it himself, but he is also reluctant to let others touch it.

FromSoftware and Miyazaki are indeed occupied. The eminent studio is currently developing a new edition of Elden Ring for Nintendo Switch 2 called Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition and a Switch 2 exclusive game, The Duskbloods. There are also rumors about an undisclosed multiplatform project and a movie adaptation of Elden Ring with writer/director Alex Garland. FromSoftware usually has multiple games under development but has never hinted at returning to Bloodborne, which is an intellectual property owned by Sony.

Whether they will ever revisit Bloodborne for a new version or a sequel is uncertain. As of now, a decade past its initial launch on PS4, many fans have given up hope for a new Bloodborne development. With Bluepoint winding down and FromSoft directly denying others the chance to create a remake, the prospect seems increasingly unlikely. Bloodborne remains accessible on PS4 and PS5 through backward compatibility for the time being (and potentially indefinitely).
