Excitement among Fallout enthusiasts is mounting as Iron Galaxy Studios, renowned for its part in creating the Xbox fighting game Killer Instinct, drops hints of possible upcoming games in Bethesda’s post-apocalyptic RPG series. The clues emerged from Iron Galaxy’s latest company update meeting, shared via social media and LinkedIn. The post included a snapshot of the classic ‘Please Stand By’ screen image from Fallout, fuelling rumours that Iron Galaxy may be involved in a much-anticipated Fallout project.

Iron Galaxy has prior experience contributing to the Fallout series, having worked on Fallout 4 VR and Fallout 76. Additionally, they have collaborated on other prominent Bethesda projects, such as The Elder Scrolls Online, Skyrim for the Switch and Skyrim VR. Their latest social media quip appears to fuel speculation that the studio may be part of the rumoured resurgence of Fallout New Vegas.

Both Fallout 3 and New Vegas are reputedly in line for a remastering. A Fallout 3 remaster was mentioned in official FTC documents related to Microsoft’s ongoing acquisition of Activision Blizzard, but it remains officially unannounced. Bethesda appears committed to ensuring the Fallout 3 remaster meets high quality standards, to replicate the success of the recent The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered, as disclosed by Bethesda chief Todd Howard in a discussion with IGN.

There’s also talk of a Fallout: New Vegas remaster, which is presumably in the pipeline. The involvement of Iron Galaxy in these potential projects is purely speculative at this point, though their recent social media post does seem to suggest an ongoing relationship with the Fallout franchise.

In a recent discussion with IGN, Todd Howard was asked about the potential for a Fallout 3 Remastered. While being cagey, the Bethesda development chief expressed satisfaction with how well The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered was received and the response to its surprise release.

The latest standalone Fallout game, Fallout 4, was released in 2015, with a multiplayer focused Fallout 76 following in 2018. While fan interest in Fallout has been steady, the premiere of the Fallout TV show on Prime Video seemed to have spurred greater attention to the series. In addition to remasters, it’s known that Bethesda is looking ahead to Fallout 5, but this is slated to follow The Elder Scrolls 6.

In 2024, Todd Howard made it clear that he did not want to hasten the development of Fallout 5. In a BBC Newsbeat interview in December last year, Howard confirmed that Fallout 5 would take into account the canonical events of the Fallout TV series, marking an exciting step for the future of the franchise as it delves into new storylines.
