Marvelous has officially revealed Eternal Anima, a new legacy-driven time-travel RPG set to launch worldwide on March 4, 2027. The game is coming to PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2, giving RPG fans across all major platforms a chance to jump into its ambitious story. It was previously teased under the working name PROJECT LIFE is RPG, but now has a full title, release window, and a clearer look at what players can expect from its world, combat, and narrative themes.
For collectors and physical media fans, Eternal Anima will also receive boxed editions on PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch 2 through participating retailers as well as the Marvelous USA online store. The standard physical edition will be priced at $49.99 for PlayStation 5 and $59.99 for Nintendo Switch 2, with the Switch 2 version noted as a full cartridge release. A Limited Edition is also planned, priced at $79.99 on PlayStation 5 and $89.99 on Nintendo Switch 2.
The Limited Edition includes a standard copy of the game along with several bonus items aimed at dedicated fans. Buyers will receive a two-disc soundtrack, a set of nine character art cards with a display stand, and an art book. That package suggests Marvelous is positioning the game as a major RPG release, especially for players who enjoy collectible extras and behind-the-scenes artwork.
In terms of style and creative direction, Eternal Anima is being described as a game that channels the spirit of RPGs from the 1990s and 2000s. That influence is reflected not only in its turn-based battle system, but also in the pedigree of the development team. Director Katsuhisa Higuchi has worked on titles such as Final Fantasy III, Final Fantasy IV, and Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin. The story concept comes from Keisuke Makino, known for work on Persona 5, while scenario writing is handled by Kazushige Nojima, whose credits include Final Fantasy VII, Final Fantasy VIII, Final Fantasy X, and Kingdom Hearts. With that lineup, the project clearly aims to appeal to longtime RPG players looking for a story-rich adventure with classic sensibilities.
The game’s story centers on Wade, a man living in the kingdom of Urvis Ael. After he questions a ruling that forbids people from wishing for a better future, he is forced to flee. That act of defiance becomes the spark for a much larger journey, sending him into a time-traveling adventure that spans multiple eras. Along the way, Wade joins forces with a diverse group of allies as they work to save civilizations from the past and uncover the truth behind a lost history. The setup hints at a narrative built around fate, memory, and the consequences of trying to change what has already been written.
Gameplay also appears to tie closely into those themes. Wade possesses a power called Psychometry, which allows him to read memories contained within objects. This ability is not just a story device, but a gameplay mechanic as well. By using Psychometry, players can decipher the past and also inherit Abilities and Classes that feed directly into the game’s turn-based combat system. That combination of narrative exploration and character progression could give Eternal Anima a strong identity among modern RPGs.
Another major system is Future Sight, which lets players predict enemy actions before they happen. Rather than simply reacting to attacks, players can see when and how opponents plan to move, then attempt to alter that outcome. Certain actions can delay or even cancel enemy turns, creating a more tactical layer to battles. This suggests combat will reward planning and timing, with players encouraged to manipulate the flow of encounters instead of relying only on raw power.
The time-travel structure also extends beyond the main plot and battle systems. Players will travel across multiple continents and different time periods, and their decisions in the past can strengthen allies in the future. That feature points to a progression system where choices have meaningful long-term effects, potentially changing character growth, relationships, or strategic options later in the game. If executed well, it could make each era feel connected rather than isolated, reinforcing the game’s central idea of legacy.
Overall, Eternal Anima is shaping up to be an ambitious RPG that blends classic inspiration with modern storytelling hooks. Between its veteran creative team, time-spanning narrative, turn-based combat mechanics, and emphasis on changing the future by acting in the past, the game has the ingredients to stand out in a crowded genre. While there is still time before its 2027 launch, the early details paint a promising picture for players who enjoy story-heavy adventures, strategic battles, and worlds shaped by cause and effect.
