Dragon Quest IX Japanese Launch

I’ve always been curious what exactly goes on during a Dragon Quest launch in Japan. The game is kind of a big deal there. So big, in fact, that they only release them on Saturdays (instead of their normal Thursday launches), supposedly because everyone would skip school/work/etc. to play the game (I’m not sure if that’s the real reason).

Well, now I know, as Kotaku has an excellent write up cover many of the events.

I also learned that Thrasher would like 7-Eleven’s in Japan much more then in the U.S. because they a) don’t sell Slurpees and b) allow you to reserve video games there. Don’t ever, ever buy Thrasher a Slurpee.

Slurpees are the bane of my existence. In Other news, The picture to that 1943 game looks pretty good. I shall read about this dragon quest stuff. I wish I was able to just play games all day and have major game events all the time. Whats a man period?
