Help Me Captain Falcon, You're My Only Hope

Seriously, I’m getting scared that there aren’t going to be any more new characters announced for Brawl at this point. Smash Bros. Dojo hasn’t announced a new character since October 25th (we got King Dedede, do we really need more Kirby characters). The updates have been pretty boring, too, but I guess if you have to update the site everyday, you have to include even the mundane stuff like:

  1. Handicap
  2. Three Different Taunts
  3. Grab and Throw

Not that I don’t like handicaps in my fighting games (I was going to include a sly jab at Robert here…I’ll let it slide just this once), but I already assumed Brawl would have them. Grab and throw is another example of something that I just expected out of Brawl.

Honestly, how many more characters can we expect to see announced before the game is released? Are some characters being kept secret up to the release? I was thinking that there would be a ton of characters in Brawl, but it doesn’t seem like that’s going to be true at this rate. 23 have been announced, Melee had around 25 (if you include Sheik as a separate character, for example, you’d have more). Sure, there might be more in Brawl, but it won’t be by many, it seems. At least they won’t be repeat characters with pretty much the same move sets (I hope).

Finally, where is Captain Falcon? He was one of my favorite characters in Melee, second only to Fox. If he isn’t in Brawl I’m going to be disappointed. I can see a ton of reasons why he wouldn’t be in the game, too. For one, no new F-Zero game is slated to come out for the Wii. Miyamoto also said he was “disappointed” in F-Zero GX, so maybe since the series appears “dead” they won’t include him. I hope it’s not true, but who knows.

Hopefully we will see some more interesting updates, soon. If I was Masahiro Sakurai I would be hyping the hell out of Brawl. That game is going to be huge money for Nintendo and you could potentially have people talking about the game all the time if good information was given out at least once a week, with filler in between.

    the ice climbers have been “dead” for quite some time, they seem to have made it back into brawl.

    the game will have 40 characters with 2-3 non- nintendo-exclusive characters. They said 2 OR 3. which makes me think “three.” Snake and Sonic plus another. (i hope for tails)

    captain falcon existed in ssb 64 and ssbm with a clone (ganondorf)
    he will not be removed.

    Dr. Mario (though not confirmed) i am willing to bet my Wii that he will be removed. he was the most similar clone in melee, his pills, smash attack, and F-air were his true unique points, with other small tweeks. Mario has inherited the qualities of Doc’s F-air, as well as retaining his old properties as well. Which makes me think that Dr. Mario will be less worth putting in the game. Same could be said about young link. They made link faster, so what good is young link other than a slight tweek of even more speed?

    based on that kind of logic i would assume young link and dr. mario out. which means we have 17 new characters to complement the old roster to make the new 40 member cast.

    i’m with you on being aggravated about the lame updates. if you looked at the frequency of “new challenger” updates, they have slowed since september. there has never been a gap this big, which make me wonder if they have anything left worth showing (that they are willing to divulge) most likely smash dojo will be a let down from now on. it won’t stop me from checking it anymore. it will just be more of: “damn, what a lame ass update” and continued complaints between friends.

    P.S. they better make a good new F-Zero. With the new Wii control system, I’m sure many ideas could be revitalized. (and will be)

    Josh, I agree it would be nice to see another F-Zero. I thought GX was a really good game and I think a Wii sequel would be great.

    Reading this early writed bullshit makes me think that the writer is an idiot. So Nintendo does not announce all secret characters immediatly, whatever? Just because Nintendo waits with announcing things, does not mean that they will not be there! Just be more patient next time, and write bullshit like this AFTER you know the facts! Or better, do not write it at all! As you can see, writing about things that only Nintendo knows about may result in embarassing yourself when the game comes out, when everything that you wrote turns out to be complete bullshit, like you did.

    Wow is right. I’m going to get my jabs in rather quickly because I think Shadow deserves a smack. First, the author of the article was just speculating how many characters would be in brawl. He made a point to say that it probably wouldn’t be much more than the 25 that were in melee. This is true as 5 extra characters aren’t much. He was also stating that he wasn’t sure if many more would be announced as nintendo was quiet about the matter for some time. I seem to miss where the author has become an idiot at this point. Did he bash nintendo in anyway? I think the answer is no. Also, nintendo does tend to be weird about updates and advertising and anything that has to do with their games. This cannot be argued. Another point is that while I believe the author was not having issues with being patient (I don’t even think that can be argued from reading his article), he does have reason to wonder what nintendo is up to. This game was supposed to be launched with the Wii and it wasn’t. It kept getting pushed back further and further. The only news that would pour out was that the game was being pushed back. I think gamers have reason to wonder what nintendo is doing.
    You know what, I am not going to defend this anymore. Case in point Shadow, Writed is not a word. I think you meant to say written. So who is the idiot now. Arguments crumble with poor writing.
    So Shadow, don’t waste your time with a rebuttal as it will fall on deaf ears and frankly I don’t think you need to waste anymore of my time, the authors time, your time, and the time of the readers of this website.
