For the second week in a row, Sony’s PS3 has outsold the Wii in Japan. Famitsu publisher Enterbrain lists Wii sales at roughly 36,000 and PS3 sales at 53,000 for the week ending November 18. Who knew that new 40GB PS3 would be so popular? Howard Stringer, Sony’s CEO did. In fact, he said the recent PS3 success “was planned by the PlayStation group.” You would think Sony would have planned this from the start instead of waiting until now, but what do I know.

Did anyone stop to think that the PS3 is outselling the Wii because maybe the Wii is in almost every household in Japan already. Of Course eventually when one system sells so much everyone has it and the other systems will look as if they are selling more. In reality they are selling more because everyone already owns the other. Am I making my point? Are Japanese people supposed to go out and buy a second Wii so that it will outsell the PS3 for that Week?

I know, that’s what I would think, too. You would also think that they all had a PS2, but they keep buying them.

I spoke to chris and he made the ps2 argument as well. Apparently Japan has sold enough ps2’s to have one in every household or something, so how do they keep selling more. Do houses over there require one ps2 for each room of the house?

It’s Japan, we can never really understand.
I think that they haven’t nearly sold as many Wii’s as PS2’s, yet, so I don’t think everyone has one, but I do think that maybe most of the people interested in getting a Wii at this time have bought one and that they’re picking up a PS3 now. I also think a huge factor is the price drop.
