Skul is a brand new pixel-art side-scrolling rogue-lite that’s out on Steam now. It has a premise where you can switch out Skul’s skull to change out the character’s class. From what I’ve seen so far, there’s a pretty large number of skull-types, so there’s a lot of variety in the gameplay. Add to that a number of different passive and active abilities you can pick up, and no run feels the same.
The classes definitely change up how you play, some being ranged-based, some agile melee-based, and others playing more defensively. You’re also able to permanently upgrade Skul, very similar to what Hades did with it’s Mirror Of Night upgrades. The hack-and-slash combat feels very fluid, and I’ve overall really enjoyed Skul so far.
