Despite fans’ hopes, Baldur’s Gate 3 will not be available on Xbox Game Pass, as confirmed by Larian Studios founder, Swen Vincke, in an interview with IGN. Citing the rationale behind the decision, Vincke explained that Baldur’s Gate 3, a large-scale game without microtransactions, entails considerable development costs. As such, it’s only logical for interested gamers to pay for it initially, promising a “big meaty game” in return. He firmly refrained from engaging in discussions concerning Microsoft’s potential offers.

Despite the absence of a Game Pass release, Baldur’s Gate 3 has experienced an Xbox release following The Game Awards 2023. Unexpectedly, the game made its debut on the Xbox store, and its release was subsequently announced on social media. According to Vincke, the news of the Xbox release was intended to be shared during his acceptance speech for Game of the Year but was left out due to time constraints.

In the same IGN interview, Vincke, along with lead writers Adam Smith and Chrystal Ding, delved into the creative journey behind the game, touching on topics like the characterisation of the main cast and the game’s concluding narratives. Moreover, they broached the subject of the notorious slowdown glitch, a technical anomaly that caused the game to overload its memory. Both Vincke and Smith lauded the programming team for their dedicated efforts in fixing this issue with Patch 5. The game is currently available for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
