The game developing company Atlus released a behind-the-scenes video for their upcoming game, Metaphor: ReFantazio. In this fourteen-minute video, which was aired originally during a Japanese livestream, the three main creative figures of the team, namely director Katsura Hashino, character designer Shigenori Soejima, and composer Shoji Meguro, spoke about various facets of the game. The discussions surrounded the game’s setting, the combat and magic mechanics, musical attributions, among other subjects, all of which were dubbed in English for convenience.

The game is placed in the imaginary United Kingdom of Euchronia and follows the story of a significant political turmoil after the assassination of the king. This event triggers the invocation of a special power known as the Royal Magic which starts off a competition for the throne. Simultaneously, the player’s character, along with their fairy partner Galica, works on a secret mission to lift a curse off the prince, who, contrary to the belief of others in the kingdom, isn’t actually dead.

Metaphor: ReFantazio is a creation of the same team which developed the recent Persona titles. It was first teased under the code name “Project Re Fantasy” in 2016. The release of the game is set for fall 2024 and it’s scheduled to be available on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.
