Alan Wake 2, developed by Remedy Entertainment, has not only been lauded as a triumph in both the survival horror genre and AAA gaming but also as one of the top games of 2023. As per Remedy Entertainment, the eagerly anticipated sequel has also experienced robust financial success, recording sales of 1.3 million units as of February 2024, a velocity they describe as their fastest-selling game released to date. Despite comparing to Control, which sold over four million units since its 2019 release, Alan Wake 2 has oversold by over 50% and three times more in digital copies in its initial two months.
In addition to achieving staggering sales, the game continues to amass awards. Most recently, Alan Wake 2 garnered the DICE Award for “Outstanding Achievement in Art Direction”, joining a portfolio of other accolades including the “Critics Choice Award” at Golden Joystick, “Best Direction”, and “Best Narrative” at The Game Awards 2023.
Despite the impressive early run of selling 1.3 million units in just a few months, the discourse on the game’s sales is not complete without taking into account that it launched just before major holiday seasons. Moreover, Alan Wake 2 was a digital-only release, sparking speculation on the possible expansion of sales, had physical copies also been made available.
