The Pokémon Company announced another Pokémon Legends installment, Pokémon Legends Z-A, during its 2024 Pokémon Presents presentation. The video game, which is set to release in 2025, was showcased in a teaser trailer featuring Pikachu moving through a city filled with numerous Pokémon. “Pokémon Legends Z-A” appears to trace the origins of Lumiose City, a major spot in the Kalos region from Pokémon X and Y.
Emerging from the side-branch of the mainline series, the Pokémon Legends games kicked off with Pokémon Legends Arceus in 2022 providing a historical perspective into the early days of the Diamond and Pearl region. The game was well-received for its added focus on catching, collecting, and exploration. Considering the difficulties faced by Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet, the addition of another Legends game could be a potential solution for franchise issues.
However, the release of Pokémon Legends Z-A isn’t until 2025, which points to a year without any new Pokémon entries as the expansion content for Pokémon Scarlet/Violet has concluded. The gap in game releases could be beneficial for the franchise, but it raises questions about what Nintendo Switch’s holiday lineup for 2024 will comprise.
