The eagerly anticipated Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake, a recreation of the classic RPG, is set to be released as a multiplatform title. A recent teaser post on Twitter confirmed that the game, developed in the visual style of Square Enix’s acclaimed Octopath Traveler series, will be available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and S, Nintendo Switch, and PC via both Steam and Windows Store. The post, accompanied by a short video, hinted that the release date will soon be revealed, potentially during a 2024 summer showcase event.

The updated version of Dragon Quest 3 was first announced in May 2021 and has largely been out of the spotlight since then. It brings the 1988 classic into the modern gaming landscape, taking advantage of the HD-2D graphic style that Square Enix previously implemented for the game Octopath Traveler for Nintendo Switch in 2018. This aesthetic approach features 2D characters navigating high-quality backdrops, a design that pays homage to iconic turn-based RPGs.

The HD-2D graphic style was lauded for how it pushed JRPGs forward when it was first showcased in Octopath Traveler, garnering the game a 9/10 review score from IGN. The upcoming remake of Dragon Quest 3 is expected to similarly engross players with its modernized yet nostalgic visual design.
