Classic RPG Dragon Quest 3 is set to undergo a transformation, with a remake in Square Enix’s unique HD-2D style, combining high-resolution 2D characters and 3D environments. Despite appearing third in the series, Dragon Quest 3 is chronologically the first installment in the internal Dragon Quest timeline. Fans can expect this revamped edition to drop on November 14th.

Following on the heels of the third installment, Square Enix is also updating Dragon Quests 1 and 2, though they will not be released until 2025. These three games together constitute the Erdrick trilogy. The remake was initially announced in 2021 during the series’ 35th-anniversary celebration, and its recent exposure hasn’t come as a major shock.

Square Enix promises that this remake, in addition to having enhanced visual appeal, will offer a modernized user interface and quality-of-life improvements. Despite not having a lot of experience with Dragon Quest titles, the author of the article is intrigued by the upcoming changes and views it as an opportunity to get to know the series better.
