In late 2022, Bulwark Studios and Kasedo Games launched IXION, a Sci-Fi city-building game on Steam, set to release on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S in early 2025. In IXION, players act as the Administrator of the Tiqqun, a prototype space station run by DOLOS, one of Earth’s most potent companies. Following a sudden catastrophic event, the station serves as humanity’s final survival hope. The game uniquely incorporates an engaging narrative into the city-builder gameplay, particularly appealing to science fiction enthusiasts.
Progression through the game involves unlocking new building components, revealing more about the station’s creators, the destructive event, and other information. Players must also make critical decisions impacting the entire human race, in a gameplay style comparable to Frostpunk, where players often make challenging choices based on immediate circumstances.
There are concerns about how conveniently a complex city builder like IXION will translate into a controller-led gaming experience, compared to the mouse and keyboard. However, given how IXION constantly surpassed expectations in its PC gameplay, there is confidence in Bulwark Studios’ ability to achieve this. The game is currently available on PC via Steam, and its PS5 and Xbox release is planned for the first quarter of 2025.
