Renowned gaming company Valve has unveiled the latest addition to its popular Steam Deck series: a Limited Edition White variant featuring an OLED display. This new version is all set to hit the market and will be available for eager consumers to order starting November 18th.
Featuring identical specifications to the existent 1 TB OLED model, this fresh variant sets itself apart with unique coloration, characterized by a slick white-and-grey scheme. This elegant style reflects not only on the device itself but also extends to its accessories. The Limited Edition White model of the Steam Deck OLED comes wrapped in an exclusive white carrying case, adding to its distinctive charm.
Another standout feature that accompanies this specific variant is a white microfiber cloth. This inclusion underscores Valve’s meticulous attention to detail in ensuring a well-rounded aesthetic experience for the user – all facets of the unit, down to even the smallest of its contents, adhere to the unified color theme.
Starting November 18th, Valve opens its digital doors for orders via Steam, scheduled to commence at 3 PM PT / 6 PM ET. This limited-edition collector’s item is priced at $680 USD.
However, it’s essential to keep in mind that this device is a ‘limited edition,’ which indeed underlines its exclusivity. Once Valve depletes its stock of this specific model, there won’t be a restock, as a spokesperson clarified, “Once we’re out, we’re out.”
To ensure fair distribution of this limited quantity product, Valve has proportionally apportioned the stock across all regions where it’s going to be available. Purchasing one of these coveted new Steam Decks requires an existing purchase record on Steam before November 2024, along with a “good standing” with the company. The company has imposed a restriction of one unit per account to keep the sales fair and accessible to as many people as possible.
Eligible regions for purchase comprise the US, Canada, UK, Europe, Australia, Japan, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and South Korea.
This is not Valve’s first venture into experimentally colored hardware. In the previous year, Valve introduced the public to a translucent Steam Deck OLED as a forerunner of sorts, which was a test to gauge user interest in alternative color choices. The feedback turned out to be overwhelmingly positive, prompting the production of the present white variant. This success has broadened the distribution of the new white edition to all the regions where Steam Deck is sold.
According to Valve, they are eager to perceive public response to this extension and use the insights gleaned from it to guide their future decisions about the potential development of further color variants.
The original Steam Deck line was launched in 2022 and took the gaming world by storm. Its aspiration to bridge the gap between the portable gaming PC and bringing a “console-like” user experience has been well-received. Despite not being the first handheld PC gaming device in the gaming market, the Steam Deck’s success has stirred up talk about similar developments from other gaming giants like Microsoft, who are rumored to be developing a handheld Xbox device.
So it remains to be seen how the Limited Edition White model fares among its competitors and if its success will continue to pave the way for more endeavors in the handheld gaming arena.
